Fuzzy Label, Warm Label, Little Ball of Words

Fuzzy Label, Warm Label, Little Ball of Words

This is the best picture I could take without turning the cake over. This is what most people see when the look at a list of ingredients on a delicious, triple chocolate Bundt cake. But my eyes are instantly drawn to the words: “acidic sodium aluminum phosphate”. The words jump out at me. Perhaps it is the fact that my college education focused on chemistry. Perhaps it is the fact that my father passed on his fear of ingesting aluminum on to me. Regardless, it takes me about half a second to spot it. Too bad the picture came out fuzzy. The cake is delicious. I’ve had it before. It is a guilty pleasure, and when I eat things like this, I try to take a capsule of magnesium as a kind of antidote for aluminum. This cake probably has plenty of trans-fat too, so it is probably a good thing that this time I did not buy the cake.
