Sam Walton Is Dead

Sam Walton Is Dead

This is the label for Sam’s Club (a Walmart store) delicious frozen buttermilk biscuits. These things are really convenient and tasty, but should probably all be recalled. Walmart stores should probably be sued in a class action for giving this to people to eat. OK, enough outrage, let’s take a closer look:

The label indicates that for a leavening agent, a mixture of baking soda and sodium ALUMINUM phosphate has been used. The other ingredients, DATEM and BLEACHED flour are suspect, but we won’t worry about those for now. All the other ingredients seem innocuous to me I just ate two of these biscuits, and took a 400mg magnesium capsule to offset brain damage from the aluminum.

Tomorrow we will talk about pickles, sweet pickle relish, and my consternation (for years) about being unable to find any reasonably priced pickles that I feel safe eating. Sure, I can go to Whole Foods or possibly other healthier-food markets and find pickles that use Calcium Chloride instead of alum, but in those cases i’m very peeved about the price.

I did not grow up in the great depression like my grandparents did, but they instilled in me a spirit of being a frugal shopper. I hate to pay twice or triple price for something that I know only costs at most 2 or 3 cents extra, per bottle, to manufacture.
